Pianist

Kozue Kawabata

“The wonderful pianist, who draws from her instrument the colors and textures of a full orchestra!”- Gottfried Pokorny,

1st bassoonist of Tonkünstler Orchestra and chamber music professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna 

 

In 2018 she won the 1st prize at the Dichler competition in Vienna, won the 3rd prize at the 17th  International Wien Piano Competition (the 1st. prize was not awarded), won the 2nd prize at the 20th Euterpe International Music Competition in Italy.

Since 2013 Kozue has regularly performed numerous solo recitals and chamber music recitals in Vienna, Italy and Japan. In August 2019 she successfully released her solo album “Portrayal”. 

 

She was born in Ehime, Japan and studied at the Kunitachi College of Music.After earning her Bachelor in Japan she began working on an additional degreeunder Univ. Doz.Gerhard Geretschläger at the Music and Arts University of the city of Vienna and completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Kozue has participated in master classes held by renowned pianists Menahem Pressler, Alexsander Jenner,Alfredo Perl, Margaret Fingerhut und Peter Efler. Additionally she studied chamber music under Prof. Evgueni Sinaiski and Prof. Gottfried Pokorny, as well as baroque dance under Prof. Margit Legler. She also appeared as a baroque dancer at the Theatermuseum Wien and the MUK Theater. In addition to the modern piano, she studied all of the keyboard instruments like the harpsichord, fortepiano and pipe organ. As a vocalaccompanist, she worked with Prof. Margit Legler in a class about period acting techniques, where she had the opportunity to use period instruments.

Bachelor's thesis: “The Influences of Gamelan Music on the Piano Works of Claude Debussy".

Master's thesis: "The Chaconne in baroque-age".
